First Responder Initiatives
In addition to clinical research, the Foundation’s team has a successful track record of working with the fire service to develop and implement evidence-based and pragmatic firefighter wellness-fitness programs, based on the IAFF-IAFC Wellness-Fitness Initiative guidelines and the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The Foundation’s team has regional and nationwide fire service stakeholder engagement.
SERVICES
The Foundation’s team has expertise and resources to help other organizations improve the wellness and fitness of firefighters through a wide range of services, for example:
– Coordinate various aspects of developing and implementing an IAFF-IAFC Wellness-Fitness Initiative – based program, such as periodic medical and fitness evaluations, risk identification, and patient-centered interventions.
– Administer the First Responder Musculoskeletal Certification Program to provide advanced training for and assess competency of healthcare providers who serve first responders.
– Provide educational services for first responders through www.FirstResponderInitiative.com
– Coordinate purchase of equipment and conduct staff training for worksite fitness facilities and exercise prescription.
– Coordinate the IAFF-IAFC Peer Fitness Trainer certification program, and provide advanced training for Peer Fitness Trainers that is required to implement a successful wellness-fitness program, above the initial certification.
– Collect and analyze outcomes data on clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness.
– Assist with grant writing for implementation and expansion of wellness-fitness programs.
